Broadcasting Careers

Who is usually interested in a career in broadcasting?
You love the fine arts and you love to communicate – ideas, passion, knowledge and information. You like to be involved with your community, to know what’s going on both locally and in the world. If this sounds like you, you might want to consider a broadcasting career – either in the forefront as an announcer or in the background as a producer, director or technician, making sure that everything is running smoothly.

What is broadcasting?
Broadcasting encompasses audio and visual programming that is designed to reach a wide audience, usually through television or radio. Different programs and stations may specialize in news, entertainment or specific information. Success is measured by the ability to entertain and retain an audience, and how well they’re satisfied.  Check out our broadcasting career video for more information.

What do I need to do to get started in a broadcasting career?
While it helps to have a background in journalism, communications or production to break into broadcasting, it’s not always necessary. Many entry-level positions are available as internships, although they are often unpaid. However, if you have a passion for communicating, there are few careers more exciting than broadcasting, with an unlimited chance to speak with people from all walks of life.
