How Can I Figure Out What Career Is Best For Me?

Graduating high school, and going directly to a 4 year university isn't for everyone. A community college or specialized career training is another, potentially better option depending on your goals. Community colleges are often cheaper than 4 year schools, which means if you are unsure about what you want to do, you have a bit more leeway to explore. Credits earned there can often transfer into many state schools if you wish to move on after earning your associates degree. The career services departments within these schools often have the same capabilities to administer aptitude tests, and career assessments. They also have many resources available to help you find a job.

Career training, or specialized trade school programs are another alternative route to higher education. These programs often do not lead to a standard "degree" but many of them result in a diploma or certification which can be a starting point if you choose to go for a degree later. Many community colleges offer these too. This is a good option if your career choice requires a lot of hands on learning, something like say: plumbing, auto repairs, computer technician, veterinarian technician or Emergency Medical Technician to name a few. You can learn more about these careers in our job description section.
