Navigating college websites is a difficult task for anyone who is not familiar with them. There are two types of college sites - collective sites and institutional sites. Collective sites, like Career Explorer, work with thousands of different schools to make sure you can search for and find the perfect college. They are designed to help students find the information they need with a few specific details, such as where the field they want to find a job in, degree type desired and whether the school is online or campus-based. In a search for schools on these sites, simply enter the information desired and start over if needed.
Institutional sites are the home page of a school. In their search for schools, every prospective student wants to know the tuition costs, programs offered and where to apply. Most sites that have large amounts of information will have options to click "new student" or "prospective student" - start there. Tuition will be under "financial aid" or "tuition & fees." Applications will be clearly marked. To view majors, click "programs," "academic departments," or "degree offerings." Also view their links for a career assessment or aptitude test. It is important to take these tests before deciding on a major and investing the money.
