Barber

The barber’s duties focus on human hair and the grooming of it. During a typical day on the job, the barber will more than likely wash, cut, shape and/or dye a client’s hair. In some cases, barbers might also shape/wax eyebrows, provide manicures, etc. In addition to dealing mostly with hair, barbers might also spend a little bit of time doing other odds and ends such as cleaning and setting up appointments on the job.

One of the greater benefits of becoming a barber is that he/she can work in a multitude of settings and environments. The most common workplace for a barber is a salon or barbershop. However, barbers can also obtain work in other places such as in the home, airports, hotels, and other locations.

The barber cannot start out inexperienced; he/she must obtain some form of legitimate education to become a barber. The best way to start out a journey to becoming a barber is to take what is known as an “aptitude test” or “career assessment.” These are certain types of questionnaires that help new students become acquainted with professions they’d be most successful at. After an assessment or test has been taken, it’s time to look into schools or institutions that offer barber training and education. The programs required to obtain a job as a barber typically last a year and end with a test to obtain the license. Afterwards, the newly licensed barber will spend a few years working as an apprentice.

Working as a barber can sometimes be a fast-paced job. It often requires exceptional skills in time management, attention to detail, punctuality, and other areas. They typically work during the daytime lasting from the morning to the late afternoon. This entails long periods of standing and diligently working on various parts of the hair. Barbers are also often experienced with striking up conversations with clients because they tend to spend lots of time around them.

A barber’s success depends on their client load as well as quality of work. Crafted and popular barbers tend to reap more wealth than others, and it helps to have as much experience as possible. The better the end result, the better the income.
