Casino

Working at a casino can be a challenging, enjoyable, and lucrative experience, with many different positions available and plenty of room for advancement. Casino jobs tend to pay more than the average positions in the same metropolitan areas, and for this reason, among others, jobs in the gaming industry are highly sought after.

Gaming floor jobs involve a large degree of public interaction, as well as rapid computation and math skills. These jobs involve dealing cards or operating other casino games. Additionally, people are needed in order to bring change to the gaming tables, work as cashiers to exchange chips and money for players, or to transfer money to the vaults. All of these positions require an excellent working knowledge of the casino and its policies, since customers will often ask the floor staff their pressing questions.

Casino jobs can also involve hospitality and restaurant positions. Since casinos are generally open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, there is always a need for front desk workers, bartenders, servers, and support staff such as bellhops, maids, and cleaning crews. These jobs function similarly to how they would in any other hotel or restaurant, although the difference is generally that the pay is a bit higher.

Like any other business that deals with large amounts of money, casinos have a real need for security staff. Security staff must be courteous to patrons and be able to answer questions, but they also must be alert, and able to always have an eye on the safety of players and visitors, as well as of the staff. They must also know the rules of the casino and local laws quite well, and be able to detect if one or the other is being violated.

There are even many miscellaneous positions available at most casinos. These can include maintenance and repair staff that keep machines and other devices running in good order, entertainment staff such as DJs or magicians to amuse and amaze patrons, and valet parking staff and concierges that help ensure that the needs of all guests are met.

People interested in working at a casino should take a career assessment first. This will help determine what position they would be best suited for, and whether or not they would find the job to be a rewarding experience.
