Coffee Shop

Working in a coffee shop is a job that does not require a college degree. However, having a successful career working in a coffee shop does have certain requirements that make a job that is not for everyone. Taking a career assessment test or an aptitude test may give you some insight as to whether or not you would fit in well in the world of coffee.

Coffee shops are almost literally everywhere these days as more and more people get their caffeine fix on the go. Working in a coffee shop requires an individual that can handle the demands of the multiple customers that will visit on a day by day basis. For an individual who wants to pursue a career in a coffee shop, a few skills and abilities will need to be displayed, such as:

1. Being a Quick Learner - Most coffee shops have dozens of different coffee based beverages, as well as a variety of equipment used to make the drinks. Learning the different recipes, as well as how to utilize the machinery efficiently, is the first step in becoming a successful coffee shop employee.

2. Strong People Skills - Much of your time in the coffee shop may consist of taking orders from the customers that come pouring in. Some may be very demanding and in a hurry, and those who haven't had their caffeine fix for the day may be particularly cranky. You will have to be able to remain courteous and professional with any type of person that may walk through your doors.

3. Organizational Skills - During busy times you may be dealing with several orders at once. If you are manning one of the coffee making stations you will have to quickly and accurately make those orders, some of which can get very complex. Keeping track of what ingredients you need, what you've already made and what you still have to make is essential if you wish to avoid angry customers sending orders back.

4. Endurance - You're going to be on your feet quite a bit. Not only will you have to have to be able to physically endure each shift, you may also want to invest in a comfortable pair of shoes to keep your feet from aching at the end of the day.

Not everyone can successfully work in a coffee shop, but if you possess the above qualities you may find that a job in a coffee shop is an ideal situation for you.
