Cosmetology and barbering careers are unique in that you can work as few hours or as many hours as you would like. Most choose to work 40 hours a week.
A day in the life of these careers can vary greatly. Both require you to stand and most of the day and to have conversations most of the day.
Barbers work mostly with men and will perform cuts, trims, shampoos, shaves and styling. They can also fit hair pieces and offer scalp treatments.
Most cosmetologists work on hair, they will cut, color, perm, shampoo, style and more throughout the day. Cosmetologists can also be estheticians and perform facial treatments, skin treatments and wax treatments. Or they can be nail technicians and provide manicures, pedicures and more.
