Day in the life of a video game designer

Arts, video games, designer, computer programmer

A career in video game design can be very rewarding.
In today’s soaring gaming market, coming up with new, creative and groundbreaking video games is a must to survive. Video game designers and programmers are the lifeline of a gaming project. It is their duty to create a gaming experience that is not only fun and addictive, but also bug-free and affordable. Some of the daily activities include:

  • Game brainstorming
  • Create source coding
  • Develop sprites and 3D models
  • Level designing
  • De-bugging

For commercial game development, projects are required to meet deadlines. The consequences of missing milestones can result in project delays which can be detrimental to third-party developers.

During these stressful deadlines, many development and programming teams work long overtime hours. Much of the overtime is dedicated to fixing bugs and keeping the project on schedule.

The work environment is casual and creative.
Video game designers and programmers work in a highly creative environment. Dress codes are rarely implemented, and freedom of creativity is encouraged. It is a very fast paced work environment that is both demanding and stimulating.

A career in video game design can offer a comfortable wage which has a very high ceiling.
