Terrorism is not a subject many people want to consider on a daily basis. However, terrorist threats and actions against the country have made this task a grave requirement. Since its formation in 2002, the Department of Homeland Security’s influence in the United States has grown in response to threats or the risk of threats to the country. To ensure the protection of United States citizens’ safety, the Department of Homeland Security oversees several federal entities, including:
• United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)

o Takes an approach of preparedness, protection, response, recovery and mitigation to these disasters
• United States Secret Service
o Protects the nation’s leaders, visiting heads of state and guests of national special security events
o Safeguards the nation’s financial infrastructure and payment systems
• Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
o Combines the efforts of security officers, air marshals, inspectors and staff members who work to protect travelers and the country’s transportation system
• United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
o Enforces customs and immigration laws
o Provides security for federal buildings
o Tracks the individuals, money and other resources that support terrorist or criminal activities
• Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC)
o Provides law enforcement training for over 80 federal agencies
