The education experience for the cosmetology and barbering career fields is hands-on and fast paced. Most likely, you will begin in a classroom going over basic information like: hair types, hair styles, cosmetology tools, sanitation and more.
After you’ve mastered basic fundamentals from the text book, you will begin practicing techniques on mannequins. When your instructor feels you are ready to begin working on actual people, he or she will move you to the floor.
Your first few consultations, cuts, colors and perms you perform on people will be heavily supervised by your instructor. After you’ve gained confidence you will be supervised less but an instructor will always be near to assist you and evaluate your work.
