Education experience of a web designer and developer

internet design, web, the cloud, computer development

When it comes to the education requirements of web designers and developers, there is not a universal prerequisite in the industry. However, a majority of employers look for applicants with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field. To many of these employers, college degrees demonstrate a candidate’s ability to learn new information, rather than to demonstrate the particular skills learned in that degree program. Technology changes rapidly and a college degree often indicates to employers that a candidate will be able to keep up with it.

Web designers and developers will be expected to navigate new devices and techniques very soon after they are created. Also, the more complex the job, the higher the level of education the employer will want to see. Many computer scientist positions require their applicants to have attained a Ph.D. Most often though, a bachelor’s degree will be the minimum prerequisite for jobs related to this field. The most relevant degrees at this level are those in computer science, information science, management information systems (MIS) and graphic design.

The coursework required to complete these degree programs can include:

  • Computer science
  • Business management
  • Physical sciences
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering
  • Art and graphic design
