USPS

People who seek employment from the United States Postal Service, otherwise known as USPS, may enjoy regular work routines, steady employment and benefits. Depending on the position being pursued, however, the applicant may be required to take an aptitude test to determine if they possess the minimum amount of prerequisite skill for employment.

For employment as a mail processing specialist, for example, the candidate must first pass an exam. The USPS requires that the applicant scores a minimum of 70 on the test before they can even be interviewed for the position of mail processing. The exam consists largely of USPS protocol knowledge, and if interested, the applicant should contact their nearest post office for information on how to acquire a study guide for the test. Working for the U.S. Postal Service can be demanding, so if you aren't sure this is how you want to make  a living, feel free to take our career aptitude test to see what field you should go into.

USPS Employment

Most applications and job openings are posted online so that people can see the variety of opportunities available at a glance. The main website offers a search database where an interested applicant can enter their regional information and find the job openings available closest to that area.

Then, at the bottom of the page, there is a button that can be clicked which will direct the applicant to the instruction page for that particular position. Examples of other opportunities, which may have requirements other than a skills test, should be considered as a career path, not just a job. There are corporate positions that have minimum educational requirements, delivery jobs which have minimum driving requirements, administrative and various other positions.

There are a fair amount of casual positions that could be considered by just about anyone who is looking for extra money, but they are not the majority of the positions that will be found on the website. For people who are interested in long-term employment, however, the normal precautions towards making major commitments should be observed, which include:

• Make sure that there is an attainable amount of background able to become acquired before seriously considering applying to a career position.

• Consider taking a career assessment from the nearest agency applicable to the status of the applicant. For example, younger people may consider their school's assessments while community colleges or job service centers would be more appropriate for older applicants.

• Review the amount of money that it will take to get from point A to point B, that is, how much education and experience is necessary prior to applying.
