The first thing to consider when pursuing a cosmetology or barbering career is, “Is this the right career for me?” People in this industry are generally creative, care about their appearance and enjoy working with people, if this sounds like you then this could be your perfect career.
After you have made the decision to pursue your career, research cosmetology or barbering schools in your area. Schedule a few school visits and talk with faculty members and students. Find a place where you feel comfortable and where you will get a lot of experience cutting client’s hair.
After you’ve completed your schooling you will need to pass a state cosmetology licensure test to receive your license. Each state differs on the state test and the amount of practice hours needed to receive your cosmetology license. Your cosmetology school should have all the information you need to know about how to receive your license.
After you’ve passed the test and received your license begin work in the rewarding cosmetology and barber industries!
