If you would like to work as a mechanic, metalworker, woodworker, and artisan, becoming a gunsmith may be the career for you! Gunsmiths must be able to work accurately and precisely to repair, modify, design or build firearms in a variety of locations including:
- Firearm manufacturing factories
- Armories of military or law-enforcement agencies
- Sporting goods stores
- Individually owned gunsmith shops
To become a gunsmith it is important to gain hands-on experience. There are many schools that offer this training including some community colleges. Be sure to research a variety of programs to find the best fit for you. Schools may even help you find apprenticeship opportunities.
