For those with a passion for animals, working in this industry may be a great fit. However, the work has its challenges as well. Some work environments are noisy and untidy. It can also be emotionally challenging to work with abused or neglected animals, and those that must be euthanized. When working with wild animals, or animals that are frightened or hurt, people may be at risk of being bitten, scratched or kicked. There may also be irregular hours involved. Animals will need care and attention every day, even if that day happens to be on a weekend or holiday.
Success in this career field requires an excitement about animals, but those who are most likely to thrive will also be adept communicators with other people. Animal care and veterinary professionals possess a wide range of knowledge to be shared with others to help animals and people happily exist together.
