Today’s X-ray technicians have Wilhelm Röntgen to thank for his discovery of the medical utility of X-rays. The X-ray of Wilhelm’s wife’s hand (taken by Wilhelm, himself) was the first X-ray ever taken of a human. From this, an entirely new field of medicine was born. The X-ray technology in use today has come quite far since Wilhelm’s discovery in the late 1800’s.
Qualified X-ray technicians are in-demand now and will continue to be in the future. The capabilities of modern X-ray equipment are nothing without the qualified professionals trained to use them. Dedication to X-ray technology and patient care can lead to a long, rewarding career in the medical industry.
Successful X-ray technicians will demonstrate the following qualities:
- An understanding of patients’ physical and psychological needs and well-being
- An attention to detail
- The ability to follow instructions
- Good technical knowledge to operate equipment
