Refrigeration

The advent of electric refrigeration has drastically changed the way people live. Refrigerators are an indispensible appliance for life in the modern world. Refrigerators have changed how we shop, cook and live our lives. They have also reduced disease by keeping perishable foods from obtaining dangerous, even life-threatening bacterial growths. Refrigerators are simple to operate. They need no help. They just work. However, to get them working requires a refrigerator installation technician. If they ever stop working, a refrigeration repair technician is needed. Most people cannot live comfortable more than a single day without their refrigerator.

Refrigerator installation technicians are usually employed by appliance dealers. They sell customers new refrigerators and provide a service to have them delivered and installed. Refrigerator repair technicians may work for an appliance dealer, as many of them have service departments, but they may also work for an appliance repair company.

Installation technicians do not only install refrigerators, but they also deliver them. This means most installers must have a driver’s license and a clean driving record. They must also have the strength and agility to be able to lift and move heavy refrigerators. Installers almost always work in pairs or teams because delivery is so labor intensive. Once delivered, the refrigerator must be unpackaged and placed in the proper position. Many installation services also include a service for the removal of the old refrigerator. After the refrigerator is in the proper position, it may require the connection of a water line for filtered water dispensers or icemakers. Installers sometimes are required to go over the features and operation of the refrigerator with the customers.

Refrigerator repair technicians may work alone or in pairs. Most services can be performed onsite. It is a rare occasion when a refrigerator must be removed from the home and taken to a repair shop. Before repairing a refrigerator, a repair technician must first diagnose the source of the problem. Once this is done, depending on what is wrong, it may be necessary to order a replacement part. In that case, the technician puts in the order and returns when the part comes in, usually in one or two days. Repair technicians are usually on a route and perform several jobs every day.

Some refrigerator technicians are licensed as HVAC technicians. HVAC technicians are able to work on all heating, venting and air conditioning systems. If you like to work with your hands and with appliances, you can find out if a refrigeration technician job is right for you by taking an aptitude test or career assessment test.
