South Dakota Colleges

The land of South Dakota is one that is both steeped in western tradition. The land contains the fabled Black Hills, and the must see Mt. Rushmore. With over 77,000 square miles in land area, South Dakota has plenty of room to move and experience the great outdoors. Besides being a great place to live and work, South Dakota also has a tremendous commitment to post secondary education. There are over 30 colleges and technical schools in the state today that not only have quality education, but also provide unique experiences for their students.

Top Colleges in South Dakota

Many of the schools in South Dakota are spread out over the vast territory in order to serve the residents better. The oldest school in the state is that of the University of South Dakota. The University is also the only college with law and medical schools in the state. South Dakota University is the most populated with an enrollment of approximately 12,000 students each semester. However, there are also smaller schools for those looking for more focused teaching and individual help. Black Hills State University and Dakota State University are two such examples.

College Degrees and Opportunities

Knowing that students need to have a combination of education, tools, and real world experience in their college opportunity, colleges in South Dakota provide a complete host of degrees and experiences. The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology produce great leaders in this field. The Southeast Technical Institute also provides great technology training as well as other two year degrees for starting a career in several fields. South Dakota University has over 200 programs from which students can choose from in law, business, medicine, engineering, arts, and early education to name only a few. With South Dakota University, Northern State University, University of Sioux Falls, and National American University in Rapid City, and 30 other schools across the state, students will not have any problems finding the opportunities in their college experiences.
