On Wednesday, January 8, 2003, President Bush signed legislation extending the eligibility period of the federal Temporary Extended Unemployment Compensation (TEUC) program to May 31, 2003.
If you have received some TEUC: Individuals who have received less than 13 weeks of TEUC through December 29, 2002, may now continue to receive TEUC benefits for up to a maximum of 13 weeks.
If you have not received any TEUC: Individuals who exhaust their 26 weeks of regular unemployment insurance benefits before May 31, 2003, are potentially eligible for the 13-week TEUC extension.
Individuals who received some TEUC benefits before May 31, 2003, may continue to receive up to the full 13 weeks of TEUC through the week ending August 31, 2003.
This legislation does not provide any additional benefits to individuals who have already received the full 13 weeks of TEUC benefits.
Checks for those eligible individuals who certified to benefits for the week ending January 5, 2003, will be mailed on Friday, January 10, 2003.
